My parents, Hal and Carol Wainwright started Halcar Kennels nearly 50 years ago. So as they say, “I was born into a Dog Family”. I owned my first Wire Fox Terrier at the tender age of twelve. I have been actively breeding and showing dogs ever since. I have titled dogs in Conformation, Performance, Obedience, Companion, Earth Dog and Barn Hunt.
There is not a more eye-catching breed than a nicely groomed Wire Fox Terrier. Wires tend to be one of the most intelligent and intuitive breeds and I believe that makes them “not a breed for everyone or every family as they like to go everywhere that you do, including the bathroom. They do not like to be left behind”. They are not the easiest dogs to train, as at times they ask “why” but on the other hand Wire’s do really want to please you. One of the greatest rewards is to teach Wire’s tricks. They are wonderful with children and will play for hours.
I raise a couple of litters a year. Occasionally I have young adults or retired champions to place.
I have shown and finished several different titles on dogs, some for others, but mostly on my own. It is a thrill to win a Specialty Sweepstakes which I have done at both Montgomery County and the Wire Fox Terrier Club of the Central States shows. It is also a great honor to have won the WFTCCS futurity multiple times. As a breeder these are the wins I treasure most.
